OUR POLITICSThe self-activity of the working class – the majority of the world’s population who must work to survive, and who have no or little authority over the labour of others – is the key to winning changes within capitalism and to the possibility of a revolutionary break with capitalism that starts a transition to ecosocialism. The emancipation of the working class must be the act of the working class itself. Democratic control from below is crucial for building powerful organizations and struggles of exploited and oppressed people.
By ecosocialism we mean a society in which people democratically plan production and organize humanity’s relationship with the rest of nature, without class division, state power, commodity production and wage-labour. Without the democratic rule of the working class, there can be no transition toward socialism. Capitalism is a global system structured as an imperialist hierarchy. So-called Canada is an imperialist power that participates in the domination of the Global South. Imperialism must be opposed consistently and in an internationalist way – Neither Washington & Ottawa nor Beijing & Moscow! Our main enemy is at home: the Canadian ruling class. Capitalism in so-called Canada is settler-colonial, founded on the dispossession of Indigenous peoples, and the struggle for ecosocialism must be anti-colonial. All forms of oppression, including on the basis of gender, sexuality, race, and nation, must be actively combatted. Oppression is harmful to those it affects directly; struggles of oppressed groups can be catalysts for broader working-class struggle; and oppression divides and weakens the working class. The struggle against each form of oppression will be led by people who experience it directly but other working-class people must actively participate in it. Ecosocialists should be constructive organizers in today’s struggles, no matter how small, striving to promote democracy, solidarity and militancy. We should act in a spirit of revolutionary humility, confident that we have much to offer and much to learn. Our missionOur mission is to build political relationships through the shared process of education and promoting ecosocialist ideas, with the goal of strengthening socialist forces in Winnipeg.
